HISTORY

The Clubhouse Child Care Center opened in September 1994 to provide after-school care to 20 children. In July 1996 it became a non-profit, charitable organization administered by an Executive Director and a Board of nine Directors. We currently have four locations: The Clubhouse on Sutherland (the location of our main office), The Clubhouse at A. S. Matheson, The Clubhouse at Raymer and The Clubhouse at Cottonwoods.

As the needs of the community change and grow the Clubhouse has evolved to meet those needs. We offer child care to approximately 300 families in the Kelowna area year round.

The Clubhouse on Sutherland is open year round and holds a license for:
Group Daycare:               20 children ages two and a half to five years.
Preschool:                         20 spaces and we offer two classes.
Out of School care:       70 children; provides care for children in     Kindergarten to Grade Seven.

The Clubhouse at A.S. Matheson Elementary is open September through June (with the exception of school holidays) and holds a license for:
Preschool:                     19 spaces and we offer two classes.
Out of School care:      40 spaces for Kindergarten through Grade Six

The Clubhouse at Raymer is open year round and holds a license for 50 spaces.
Group Daycare:              20 spaces (this includes children in Kindergarten)
Out of School Care:        30 spaces

The Clubhouse at Cottonwoods is open year round and holds a license for 30 spaces.
Group Daycare:             22 spaces
Infant-Toddler:             8 spaces

Our curriculum for the group daycare and pre-school programs includes an Early Literacy component that has been mentored through School District #23. For the past several years The Clubhouse has had the opportunity to be part of a pilot project with School District #23 in the Preschool Partnership program. Our Early Childhood Educators have also participated in PALS/ELFF and the Hanen Language Program training through School District #23. The training and professional development has added to the quality and versatility of the program.
In 2007 The Clubhouse received funding from the “Success by 6” initiative and set up a nutritional program to encourage healthy eating. This is provided for all children, including breakfast, lunch and/or two snacks a day, depending on the program. Baking and cooking programs are offered to older children throughout the year.
TThe school age program provides care before and after school for children in four downtown schools – St. Joseph Elementary, Casorso Elementary, Raymer Elementary and A.S. Matheson Elementary. Transportation is provided where required. The Clubhouse continues to provide a variety of activities for the children to participate in, such as art, sports, games, play centers and outdoor play. We also offer extra curricular activities such as swimming lessons, drama and singing programs, Tae Kwan Do, and woodwork classes.
